1984 was one of the worst years of my life. We were walking a very painful path which we did not choose. The Lord, however, intervened bringing good from chaos. And though I might not have sensed it then, it is clear now that He lifted us up on eagle’s wings and gently placed us on a new path that led to many open doors and ministries that have continued and still continue until now. We walked that path for 24 years. Though I am sure that the Lord did not bring about that struggle, he yet brought much good from it.
Again we found ourselves on a painful path which we did not choose. But I know Him in whom I have believed and I know what He is capable of. I have seen His hand at work too

many times to not recognize it. I know that He can bring good far beyond what we ask or think. So again I felt the eagle’s feathers beneath us as He lifted us up to make the transition to this new path as easy as possible.
It seems that I have ridden this eagle’s wings many times in my life, usually in fear. I have learned now that I never had needed to fear and in fact should have sat back and with excitement enjoyed the ride with wonder and anticipation of where it might land.
We now look forward to this new path in Amherst, Ohio. The brethren here are clearly full of excitement desiring to abound in love and good works. So it is now again that I look over the eagle’s head as we view the ministry before us. It is with wonder and anticipation that I squint my eyes to gaze into the distance of what might be the exciting things awaiting us here in this new land. It is truly a mission field where the harvest is ripe!
There are two things which are always at the heart of what the Lord does through Nell and I-the message of grace and the proclamation of it. It has been the same whether it be in Tennessee, Ukraine, Belarus, Guatemala, the Philippines or Iceland. I have ceased not to proclaim and remind all of what is the basis of our hope-not what we do but rather another way of being made righteous, a righteousness given as a gift accessed by faith, Rom. 3:21. Likewise I have not ceased to stress that being a light to lost people is our purpose. It is why we exist. It is what we are “for”, Acts 13:47. It is what are Master did, Luke 19:10. And if we are to be his disciples we too will walk in the same steps as our Master, 1 Jn. 2:6. If the evil one tells you different, do not listen to him.
It is my prayer that you too will find yourself in the circumstances in life wherein the eagle will come your way. And when he comes, do not fear but bravely mount the eagle and ride to a path wherein you will be privileged to walk in your Master’s steps to share the message of grace to friends and enemies. I pray the Lord will take your there and let you feel the enjoyment of that ride. Isaiah 40:31, “But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”
